Wizzsim.com has been hosted on a vps since I relaunched wizzsim last year, in the short time wizzsim has been online since relaunch the flight simulator Freeware database has grown to over 4,400 and has filled the 60GB capacity that our original VPS hosting provider had assigned. Because of this I had no option but to find a more suited home for wizzsim.com
So I had 3 options to choose from:
1. Continue with VPS hosting and double the capacity to 120GB which would double hosting costs
2. Use my own 1u Server in a co-location data center
or the final option rent a Dedicated Server.
after many, many sleepless nights, many cups of coffee I finally decided Originally to use my own server and if you had read the forums you will already know about the 1 TB hard drive but that original decision had been stopped in its tracks before it could get started as I was unable to find a data center that offers a unlimited bandwidth which is a very big problem for a website like wizzsim.com.
Since the 01/05/2020 wizzsim has had over 386GB of Freeware downloaded or to put it another way users of wizzsim has downloaded 105,540 Freeware files. So as you can see limited bandwidth is just no good for a website that will grow on a daily basis.
So since the original decision would not work I decided to research about renting a dedicated server and again after many sleepless nights and many cups of coffee I finally found a hosting provider that offers a dedicated server that had a dedicated line with unlimited bandwidth.
Great job done well not yet.
The first thing I need to do is set the dedicated server up then transfer wizzsim which I will announce when the transfer takes place.
So yes wizzsim.com is now taking a step forward to dedicated hosting.
whats are the specs?
Intel Core i5-2300 Processor 4 core system 2.8Ghz
16GB DDR3 Ram
100MB Dedicated Connection
Unmetered Bandwidth
What does this mean?
Capacity to expand the flight simulator Freeware database with many tens of thousands of Freeware , Much Faster Downloads , Faster Uploads, a faster website. To put it simple a Faster Better website to experience.
So what happens now?
Nothing just sit back and enjoy the flight while I work in the background setting up the new server and once this is complete the transfer will begin which I will announce in the near future.
for now I hope everyone is keeping safe and well.
Kind Regards Matt
